Horrible Outrage.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, January 28. A horrible outrage was perpetrated on a child, aged three years and a half, at St. Clair late on Saturday evening by Samuel Flaherty, aged 25. - He lured the child among the sand hills and brutally mutilated her. A mau named Coxon caught Flaherty and took him to the station. The child is in a critical condition.
Flagherty was brought before the Magistrate this morning and remanded till Friday. He was hooted and groanrd at by a large crowd, and after the proceedings the police took him away priyatelv. He maintains silence and affects insanity.' This is the second case of its -kind within two months. The Press and police kept the former case quiet hoping to find the man, but without success. The victim in the first case is seriously injured, but the doctor hopes to save the victim of Saturday's outrage..
