MOVEMENTS OF HUNTER AND
METHUEN
London, May 18,
Information has been received that Lieutenant - General Sir Archibald Hunter has returned to Fourteen Streams, having left Major-General Barton at Christiana, on the Vaal riyer, where the Union Jack was hoisted a few days ago.
Lord Roberts explains to the War Office that the Boers who were at Christiana, thinking the British force at Pary's Drift threatened Kierksdorp, a Transvaal town away to the north-east, went to the latter place.
Lieutenant-General Lord Methuen has advanced twelve miles along the road to Hoopstad, south of the Vaal river, fortyfive miles eSst of Christiana.
