Hill Street on Wednesday the yards Were well rilled. For cattle the bidding was very btisk. Weaners kept their value ; two-year steers and those of a larger size were, quality considered, at higher rates. The entry of sheep was chiefly confined to wethers. These were largeframed sorts in store condition ranping up to full mouths, and strong healthv sheep from the baok country. The bulk was sold, making 12s 6d. Some empty j ewes from the same place, in good order, i sold briskly at 9s 6d. Of the other entries, shorn lambs, fair size, with good quality of wool, made 7s 4d ; 9tore and breeding ewes. 8s Sd to 9s 6d. Pigs in full supply. Small pigs were at low rates, but porkers and baconers sold readily at a marked advance upon late prices. Mr R. E. Beckett reports :— I had a very successful sale at Marton on Tuesday, despite the very unfavorable weather. Both cattle and sheep came forward in advertised numbers, and were of excellent quality. The 100 dairy heifers from Taranaki were in good condition, well bred, and sold well. A good line of 4-th wethers made 12s iOd, and 2-ths lis lOd, both prices being someabove late rates. I quitted all f cattle and all but one pen of sheep Quotations: —
