A DISQUALIFICATION
Masterton, May 18. At a meeting of stewards of the Masterton Racing Club this afternoon, a letter was read from Woodley, trainer of Koyal Guard, claiming the stakes in the Railway Hack Handicap, in which Royal Guard ran second, on the ground that the winner, Rebounding Hock, was ridden by an unlicensed jockey and trained by an unlicensed trainer. The secretary said Sir George Clifford, chairman of the Racing Conference, in auswer_ to aletter sent him, said, " A horse ridden by an unlicensed rider was not legally capable of winning. The stewards therefore have no option of fining in lieu of disqualification." Johnston, the owner of Rebounding Lock, made a statement, after »vhieh the stewards decided to disqualify the horse for the race in question, and to request Johnston to refund the stakes. Johnston intimated his intention of taking a legal opinion on the matter, and "declined to repay the stakes in the meantime.
