BOERS ATTACK MAFEKING,

Pretoria advices state that the attack on Mafeking begun on Saturday. The native quarter of the town was burned. BOERS CHECKMATED. Received May 16, at 10.10 a.m. London, May 15. General Rundle has checkmated the Boers in attempting to advance southwards along the Basutoland border. Ho is now returning. FREE STATERS STILL SURRENDERING. Many Free Staters were captured or are surrendering. RETIREMENT OF THE ENEMY. The enemy has evacuated Macquattings Nek and the Ladybrand district is clear. The Boers have retired to Liudley. The commando from Harrismith is going to Bethlehem. { BOERS CONCENTRATING AT \ HEIBRON. The Boers from Viede and Frankfort " are concentrating at Heibron. BOERS OUTFLANKED. The cavalry division under Generals Dundonald and Bethune have out. flanked the Boers. -^ BULLER'S FORCE. General Buller's main force is nowenabled to secure the Helpmaakar - plateaux, thus turning the Boer position on Biggarsberg. THE ENEMY PURSUED BY THE " CAVALRY. The cavalry pursued the enemy's left wing within seven miles of Dundee. 1 GENERAL HiLDYARD'S DIVISION. General Hildyard has occupied Iu« doba Hill.
