EDUCATION BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP.
We thought Wanganui would soon rouse up to the result of the defeat of Mr G. S. Bridge for a seat on the Education Board. Mr Alex. Ferguson, a member of the Wanganui School Committee, in a letter to the Chronicle says :— " Let the chairmanship be held by a country member (it is well known who that member would probably be) and how long will it be before the office is removed from Wanganui." The Chronicle itself, commenting on the situation, after conessing that Messrs Bridge and Pirani are the two strongest members of the Board, points out that, if the present chairman of the Board should be rejected, the chairmanship of the Board will pass into the hands of a southern member. A strong m\n is wanted for chairman, and the suggestion apparently is that, should the present chairman not be available, the chairmanship will go to Mr Pirani. It is to be remembered, says our contemporary, that the balance of power lies with the southern members, and that they can put in whom they like.
