Earthquake In Mexico.
■•- (Per Moana at Auckland). Han Francisco, January 23. At Colima, in Mexico, an earthquake shock began at fifteen minutes before midnight on Friday, the 10th January, and assumed serious proportions before morning. Many houses wer* b<»dly injured and some of light construction were wreoked. There was great consternation and the people rushed into the streets, some barely escaping with their lives. Seven persons were killed ou right and sixty were injured. It was reported that a volcano had burst into eruption, but it now appears that the phenomenon was oonfined to Bubterranean manifestations. Local scientific men believe that the eanhquake travelled from under the Pacific ocean and that when news reaches here from the coast there will be interesting details. The Governor of this State h-js ap. pointed a commission fo inspect the churches and public edifices, while the owners of the houses injured by the earthquake will be compelled to put thßtn in a condition of security. Quiet has returned and there is little apprehension of further disturbances News is arriving in the papital of Mexico from the interior poiflts ffeoted by the earthquake. The capita* of Mexico came off comparatively | unscathed, few aciwden^ocumßg thpre or in the suburbs, althbiafch some adobe hots in the suburbs fell in and one bridge was partly wrecked, ahe Church of the Three Kingalfit A.tzetchazalco will be closed for repairs.
