Mr F. Mowlem has been Appointed Managing Director of tho Manawatu Building Society. Thert was a very numerous attendance at the Lyceum last evening when | Mr Walton discussed on "Tho Wandering Jew, 1 ' His address was listened to with dose attention throughout, and was frequently applauded. It 18 generally acknowledged that Mr Walton hbiidled his subject very ably, and his addresp is said to have been one of the most m- j teresting yet delivered under the auspices of the Lyceum. Some weeks ago we noticed a paragraph going the ronud of tho English journals, to the effect that m New Zealand strawberries were oaten with pepper. The Young Ladies Jouvnal for April gives the surprising information : — " In New Zealand the correct method of eating strawberries is with pepper." We do not know whether the method is general throughout^ the colony,. but we do not know that with sweet strawberries pepper ir very much nicer than sugar.
