4» (by electric telegraph— copyright.) (reuter's telegrams.) London, May 8, The Tongariro left Plymouth to-day for Port Chalmers calling-at Madiera and the Cape of Good Hope. Sydney, Monday. A railway collision occurred yesterday near Bontal on the Great Southern Railway. No lives were lost, but eleven persons were injured, some seriously. Great damage was done uo the rolling stock. Arrived, last night — Tarawera from Auckland. Melbourne, Monday. The acting Agent-General telegraphs to the Government that he has replied to the despatch received by him from Mr Brariston, assistant Under-Secretarv for the Colonies which favoured .the cession of the New Hebrides to France. Sir Andrew Clarke adds that Sir Dillon Bell, the Agent-General for New Zealand, has refused to co-operate further -with him m consequence of the latest instructions received from the Government of New Zealand. The Premier of Victoria has m consequence communicated on the subject. Messrs Howard, Smith, and Sons will despatch the steamer Ganiier on the 18th of May from .Melbourne for Cambridge Gulf, which is the port for the Kimberley goldfield.
