The Late W. H. Lash.

On Friday morning, after a long and painful illness rebuking from an injury received when working at his mill at Halcotnbe, Mr W. H. Lash departed from this life. He was an old colonist, having arrived at Collingwood about six and twenty years ago. He was afterwards a storekeeper at Eaneiri m the early days of the West Coast Goldfields where he did very well. He w«s m the same line of business at Halcombe for some time, biu he gave it up aiid started a sawmill, which was afterwards destroyed by fire,, reducing him somewhat m circumstances. Nothing daunted by this misfortune he made a new beginning, and there appeared every likiihopd that fortune was again about to smile upon him, but m overexerting himself at his work, he inflicted the injury which has at length terminated his existence. Wherever Mr Lash has been he always made warm friends. With a naturally kiud disposition and general amiability, he was one of the first to lend assistance m relieving, distress m whatever form it presented itself. He had been twice marritd, and leaves a widow and a large family behind him, who are m very poor circumstances-. He was- a member of the Masonic body, and received a Masonic funeral yesterday. — Star.
