. A letter was received from the Waste Lands Board, agreeing to proposed expenditure of deferred payment third m Kairanga. Newbury Line, clearing and metalling, 20 chains :' — J. Mullins, 19s 6d per chain, accepted ; J. Lane, £1 4s ; J. McColl, £1 6s 6d ;J. C. Nathan, £1 ; G. Parr, £1 4s ; Allan & Co., £1 9s 6d. ' Bridge, Hamilton Line.— Resolved that fresh tenders be called for the work. ;Mr Pratt moved— That tenders be called for repairing upper bridge; on the, Tiritea, cost to ba divided between Nos. 4 and 5 Wards. W.Walker, re diversion of money received f j-om Government from deferred payment sections. • " Resolved— That No. 5 Ward be debited until half of deferred payments money on C, Walker's section, inadvertively spent upon it m error, as it should have been all spent m No. 4 Ward. In reference to the Fitzherbert East Road question, a reply had been received froui the Government, but the procedure suggested, it was obvious, could not be adopted on account of the enormous expense which would attend it. It was decided, that the suggestion .of; Dr Lemon, as made to the chairman,should be adopted; viz.,— That the Chief Justice should be 'requested, to draw -up a small Act, to be passed next session, empowering the Government to transfer the. control of the road from the Manchester Board to the Manawatu Board. Re the Pahiatua Road across the ranges, the engineer stated lie had interviewed the Pahiatua Road Board on the matter.' Th 9 chairman had informed him that Mr Beetham had asked a question m the House at it's last sitting referring to this road. The Government had promised to undertake the construction, . but nothing since had been heard of it. The clerk of their Board had been instructed t© write to the Government and ask what action had been taken m the matter. Warden Snelson' stated that their member, Mr Macarthur, had lately been m Wellington a»tl had made enquiries about the Road. The chief surveyor was the only ona who had any objections to it* construction. It was suggested that a joint petition of the two Boards should be sent to tho House at its next sitting. - Re Mr Brooke's letter. It was decided to refuse permission to allow. the traction engine to be taken to Ashurst, v\a Palmerston ; the bridges not being considered safe for tho weight.
