Manawatu Road Board.
THIS DAY. /Present — The Chairman, with Wardens Pratt,' Sly, and Mathieson. CORRESPONDENCE. From Property Tax Commissioner, objecting to amount of rate claimed oil Crown Lands as being incorrect. From Treasury Department, stating that the sum of £375, subsidy under the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act, 1885, had been applied in reduction of overdue debentures of the Board amounting to £4(39 10s 7d, a balance of .-£94 10s still remaining clue. From Treasury, advising the Board of an account of £296 7s having been forwarded, being deferred payment to June 30 Kairanga Survey District. From same, advising that the sum of £100 had been forwarded, being first payment on account of Kairanga Main Drainage. From Public Works Department, offering in reply to application to grant a sum under the Koads and Bridges Construction Act towards the payment of extra expense in repairs to the Awahuri Bridge amounting to £250, or that the Board should find one-quarter in cash instead of taking a poll and striking' special rate, in winch case the sum granted would b« £188, and also £62 would have to be expended out of Board's f undsbefore the grant could be made. From' same, stating that the Minister of the Department was not in a position to make any grant for the work of open-, ing up the road from Ficzherbert to Hawke's Bay. From same, re proposed grant for rebuilding worn out bridge and erection of six others, stating that the poll already taken is not sufficient to authorize the construction of two bridges out of the money already granted. Fresh polls would have to be taken for rebuilding the Mangaone Creek Bridge, cost of which is stated at £700. From Manchester Boad Board, re road from Oroua Eiver to Bunnythorpe, stating that the Board was not in a position to spend any money on the road in question. The Board were willing to take over the control of the road ; but the Manawatu Board to recoup half the exexpenditure made by the Manchester Board in maintenance or construction.
