At their quarterly meeting the Chamber of Commerce, appointed Messrs Chrystall and Meares to represent thorn at the conference of chambers to be held at Wellington next month. The president, m his •address, attributed the depression* here, partly lo overbuilding, and states that, roughly speaking about a quarter of a million had beenexpended m the city daring the past, three years m building new stores, hotels, banks, and factories.
