Despatches from Tonquin state that desperate fighting took place at Sou tay and that heavy loss was sustained on either side before the fortress was captured. The French lost 27 officers and fully 1000 men. The attack upon Bacmnch will not take place until the arrival of reinforcements recently despatched from France under General Mellott. : '
