The attendance was very gool, thus showing the that parents werealivo to the importance of selecting those who would interest themselves in all matters appertaining to the welfare of the school. Mr C..H. Mills, Chairman of the retiring Committee, read the following report : " To the Householders, Havelock School District. “ Gentlemen,—Our period of office was, through a recent Act of the Legislature, extended for three months longer than usual, and we now present the balancesheet for the past financial year, duly audited, for your inspection, We are sorry to say there has been no great increase of pupils during the last twelve months, but iu accordance with our previous request, the Central Education Board kindly arranged and allowed our competitors for the Marlborough Scholarship to have their examinations supervised in Havelock, thus saving the parents considerable expense, and one of Mr Reynolds’ pupils held the creditable position of second on the list. <* We have much pleasnre in stating that the master’s new residence will shortly be completed, and we have requested the Board to vote a sum of money sufficient to fence in the section on which it stands, and for the future to allow'our pupil teachers to be examined in Havelock before the Inspector at his annual visit, thus saving the young ladies a large outlay from their small stipends. “ Your Committee have again found it necessary to issue notices, as required, to enforce the compulsory clauses of the Education Act, as some families seem to entirely overlook the great advantages our national system of fiee education offers to everyone. •‘The total receipts for the past year are L 37 13s, and the expenditure L 37 8s 9d, showing a balance of 4s 3d to our credit ; the expense of cementing part of the well, so as to provide good water, beiDg a severe drain on the small funds at your Committee’s disposal. “ We now restore the trust you reposed in us, and it will be your duty to elect a new Committee for the ensuing year, “ I have the honor to be, “ Gentlemen, *• Your obedient servant, “ C.
