The entire cost for ISG9 to the Australian Colonies of the Suez mail was £94,431 10s. It is commonly reported in San Francisco and Honolulu, that Mr Vogel has guaranteed Mr Webb against all loss in running his ships for the first six months. Supposing this to be true, we shall have about £GO,OOO to pay for the first six months, and we can then have as much more as we like at the same price, that being the amount of the subsidy Mr Webb first asked. _ But the report seems too gross for common belief.
