Godfrey, Esq., M.P.C, Sir,— ln the last issue of the ‘Marlborough Press ’ appears a letter, bearing your signature, animadverting upon tiie leading article in the • Wairau Record ’of the 29th ultimo. By implication you charge me with being the writer of the article, which, being taken for granted by the readers of the ‘Press,’ I am called upon to answer a charge of falsehood, and am asked if I have a spark of manly feeling, I will state on what occasions those whom i accuse have advocated the neglect of any district, or any important public work—more especially that of remedying the mischief caused by the floods in the Lower Wairau. I beg, sir, to state that I am not the writer of the article referred to —never having written more than one, an.i that the opening article for the ‘ Wairau Record,’ which must have been some nine or ten months since. Among what I conceive to be your shortcomings, I have never catalogued that of want of candour. You wili. therefore, I trust, be good enough to state that you have been mistaken when you identify me as the writer of the article which formed the subject of your letter.
