HOW TO BEAT THE 'FLU GERM.
Thus writes a contributor to the London Daily Chronicle : Can We beat the 'flu: genu, which is having things his own way at present? One morning, perhaps, you are awakened feeling cold, with, a nasty stabbing pain in, your body, or throat. Ai, first you refuse to recognise this leeling, but a moment or two later another stab occurs, succeeded by others, until there is a whole regiment of microbes at work. About midday your eyes give warning that all is not weil, and at 5 o'clock your lethargy ie complete. So is the invasion of the influenza germ and a very ill man or woman is packed oft' home. But to beat the germs- do not treat that first feeling of discomfort with contempt. Snuggle further beneath the bed-clothes, and stay there. Have collected one or two hot-water bottles., anil place one beneath tlie blanket next to your feet and another about the upper -part nl you. Take copious hot -drinks every two hours—sweat and wash out those microbes from your system. Take a good strong aperient. Trait locally the part where the stabbing is going on. li it is in the throat, steam well with tincture ol benzoin (a teaspoonlul to 1 a pint of hot water), and keep warm the while. If it is in the head, take .seven or eight drops of tincture of benzoin on a lump of sugar every quarter of .an hour for one hour. Follow by two doses during the next hour and one- dese tbe third hour. Usually trii.s doe.-: 1 the cure. But stay in bed an! keep warm -for 48 hours. Keep the window open slightly all'the time. And it's 99 chances out of 100 that you will not he :; off duty" for a few weeks with "a bad attack of influenza."
