Tho annual meeting of tbe association, held at Ranf urly last Friday at'ter noon, was well attended. Present Messrs P. Black (cbair), J. Millar (s.ec retary), D. Murray, J. Lobb, A. Dyke, J. O'Neill. E. Dow, G Lindsay, D. Duncan, W. Mawhinney, A. Cromb, W. Davis, M. Cogan, F. Matbias, W. Pirie, P. Laughton, W. M. Mawhinney, J. M'Leod, P. Bleach, C. Dougherty, J Glenn, J. Devenney, Reed, H. Cleugb and Greer.

Minutes. Tbe minutes having been read, Mr Davis explained why the yards and buildings bad not been shifted to the Recreation Ground as decided at last meeting. He had interviewed the Land Board and communications had passed between tbe secretary aDd them, and nothing definite could be obtained. Tbe association would have no hold on their property once it was removed to tbe domain. For these reasons it was decided to let things remain aB they are.

Tbe minutes were confirmed on the motion of Messrs Duncan and Dow Balance-sheet. The balance-sheet wa3 as follows:

The Chairman said the mortgage on the baii was wiped out. It was very satisfactory that that had been done in so Ehort a period. He moved the adoption of the balance-sheet. Seconded by Mr O'Neiil and carried. On the motion of Messrs Lobb and W. Mawhinney,a hearty vote of thanks was passed to th« ladies for their very valuable assistance in the work.

Mr Davis said the ladies had helped to the extent of £l3O in clearing the debt off the' hall. In recognition of their services, the hall committee entertained them at a eucbre tournament last year, and in'ended to do bo again on the evening of the 26th. Office-bearers. Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:

Mr Bleach, after a lengtby comment on the regulations, moved that a now one be added, viz.—Competition means two or more exhibitors competing for the prize or prizes in the particular class for which prizes are awarded.— After some criticism the motion lapsed for want of a seconder. On the motion of Messrs Davis and W. Mawhinney Regulations 13 and 14 were deleted, and the words " Honorary certificates will be given as third prizes where tbera is sufficient competition and merit " added to No 12.

Mr Bleach moved as an addition to No I—That the words "For at least one month previous to the date of -the show " be added to tbe first sentence. —Seconded by Mr Lobb and carried. Date of Show. - Mr Black proposed that tbe show be held on tbe first Thursday (7tb) in December. Seconded by Mr Bleach and carried. Programme and Grounds Committee. ' On the motion of Messrs Bleach and Lobb the following were appointed:— Messrs Cromb, Davia, Bleach, Jno. O'Neill, J. Glenn, J. Nicolson, Lobb, Murray, Little, Duncan, Allison, Dow, Mawhinney, Pringle, Shaw, Donald, Sharkey, Laughton, Greer and Black. The Programme. In the attending members for hackneys Messrs Greer and J. Glenn take the places of Messrs E. Smith and W. Hall. Messrs Rutherford and M'Killop were appointed attending members for chain stepping. The usual review of the programme was dispensed with owing to shortness of time. Yurd Improvements.. Mr Cromb brought up the annua 1 )? recurring question of yard improvements. Mr Bleach said the balance - sheet (with war loan cetifieace coming due) showed r. credit of £129 odd, and he would move—That t::e Grounds Committee be empowered to expend not more than £IOO on improvements to tbe sheep and cattle yards. Sesonded by Mr Cromb. Several members having spokeD in favour of the resolution, it was carried. Hall Committee.

The following were appointed: Messrs Dow, A. Cromb, G. Allison, W. Mawhinney, Davis, Pringle, Hanrahan and Millßr. General. On the motion of Messrs Davis and Laughton, the eecretary's salary was passed for payment. The president and secretary were appointed to sign cheques. , Mr Dow suggested that when judges are nominated the names be drawn for, instead of following the custom of the past of writing to them in the order that th6y ara placed before the meeting. A proposal by Messrs Black and Pirie to engage Ihe Naseby Brass Band at the same fee as last year (S4) was lost by ten to nine.

On the motion of Messrs 0 Neill and Cogan, it was resolved to try and engage a piper or two for the day of the show at a cost not to exceed £2.

The secretary was empowered to provide the same free lunches as last year, and the arrangements for a booth were left with the secretary. Horse breeding.

Mr Glenn asked the society's opinion on. trying to get a heavy draught stallion for the district. They could see by their yearly shows that their draughts were getting ,too light. Perhapv-they could arrange with their I<.cal owner to get a.heavier one or they could advertise

Mr W. Mawhinney endorsed the remarks and compared the horses of 20 years ago with those of to-day, to the disparagement of the latter. x

Mr Dow said the reason was that they sola too many of their good mar*s.

After further discussion Mr Bleach moved, Mr Duncan seconded, and it was carried—That this association hss every sympathy with the idea of im porting a suitable draught stallion into the district, that a committee from the asfo?iation be appointed to do all in their power to get a suitable horse, and that the committee consist of Messrs W. Davis, J. Glenn, W. Mawhinney, J. M'Leod and D. Duncan. Judgicg Stock.

Mr thought the association should do something towards educating young men in the art of judging stock. Tbey could start in "a small «ayahd offer a good prize—say £5 for judging two classes of siietp. The idea received general support. Teams' Prizes. Mr Davis proposed, snd ft r Mawhinney seconded That Mr G. Lindsay, the hol.Jer of four ?econds in teams (for which U e programme provided no second prize), be swarded prizes of 10s 6d ; and that second prizes be added to future programmer. Aft;r discussion seven' supp rted a-d seven opposed the motion, which was carried on the casting vole tf the chair man. The Hall. The secretary pointed out 'the.reed of a new ball piano. Toe committee thought that by disposing of the old one tbey could get a new one on. the hire system at a con of £9O. It was resolved to l»ave the matter to the hall committee to make the best arrangements they could. .

Mr Davis pointed out that the show buildings were often wantonly damaged Resolved to place the matter in the hands of the local constable. Thanks.

The retiring chairman was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his pait years' services.
