CRICKET.

(By Our Patearoa Correspondent)

111 On the 14th inst., for the first 111 time for three years, we had a match with Naseby. It was a good, toughlycontested game, and the reports of Naseby's weakness were belied hy their good bowling, their excellent i.elding, and their all-round form with tlie bat. In addition to M'K.Marshall, Stephens and other first-rate fieldsmen, they have a valuaole man in Pender. # In the slips, he is worth two ordinary men, as he can reach 11 feet up and down and about 14 feet across. When he hooked in some high catches his arms were like fishing rods, with every finger a gaff. He is also a good bat, and we were lucky when he ran himself out for 18 in his first innings. Marshall has lost none of his hitting powurs, and ne played two fine innings for 34 and 29. For Patearoa, Taylor played well for 34, about 20 of them being pluclcily made after getting a nasty upper cut which split E. Carr was out for 38 runs, and he got 30 of them in a very short time. Schrick, with 23 not out, is also a very quick scorer, and he rendered his side good service, as, when he went in, nine were down for 94. In Naaeby's second .innings, Taylor took six wickets for 18 runs. We won by 41 runs on the first inn - i ings.
