He is a beautiful dark bay horse, stands 17 hands high, and has a syt of legs of great quality showing plenty of muscular power and substance, with good flat boue and hair of the right sort ; is nicely set, and combined with grand style ami action, which stamp Ringleader as a pure type of Clydesdale, and a sire most suitable for getting the right class of Draught stocK. Ringleader's sire Champion, by Lotd Haddo by Young Banker, (imported by the late Hon. Mitliew Holmes). Champion, as hrs name implies, is well known in South Canterbury, being always to the fore in the Timaru Show (.'round, beating all comers. Champion's dam, Duchess, of Glasgow—sire—Glasgow (imp)—was bred by J. Goldie, and was a noted prize taker in the Timaru and Oainaru districts Ringleader's dam Garnet, bred by the late Hon. M. Holmes, was by Crown Prince by Lord Salisbury (imp) ; grand dam, Sophia (11), Sir Awamoa ; g-g-dam, Sophia ; g-g-g----dam, Pearl (imp.), by Hero (imp). Garnet has taken several prizes in the Show* Kings at Oamaru and Timaru, both as filly and brood mare. Garnet's dam was also a noted a prize taker, having taken five firsts aud two seconds at Oamaru, Timaru, Christchurch and Dunedin. It will be seen from the foregoing that Ringleader comes from a most successful line of piize takers and that he possesses some of the stoutest strains of Clydesdale blood ever imported or bred in the colony.
