THE LOCAL OPTION POLL.
TO 188 EDITOR, Sib,—The Returning Officer for Mount Ida when giviog toe official result of the local option poll in your last issue, has made the eame mistake as was made three years ago. When neither no-license gains the necessary three-fifths, or reduction a bare DDujority, and continuance fails to poll one half of the votes recorded, then the declaration should be:— "The Total Number of Voters whose votes were recorded wa53426, and as none of the proposals respecting licenses in the district obtained the prescribed majority, I ■declare NONE of them carried." . To declare the 1672 continuance votes as «n absolute majority of 3428 voters was of course a mistake somewhere.- lam.&c, . . ' VOTER.
