Wk congratulate the residents of Sowburij. upon their connection by telephone with the other centres of population, which was effected this week. A special meeting of tho Central Otagj? Hospital Board was held at .Clyde on YVedr neaday last, there being present —Messrs.. Fraser (Chairman), Oliver, Lothian, Pitches, Burnett and Gulfie. The meeting was called for the purpose of further considering the petition presented to the Board by MrBurnett at its last meeting, praying tor thp cstn.Mish.ment of a cottage hospital in-.ft' central position between the Dunstan amt Naseby Hospitals, which petition was signet} by 400 persons.- A telegram was read froyft. the Mayor of Naseby to the effect that the Borough Council protested against anv additional Hospital boing fully established. aJV an overage distance of ton or liftoejw miles. After a good deal of discussion.. Mr. Lothian moved—" Provided that thfci petitioners of tho districts of St. Bathatrjj. and Ophir make provision for the erection of cottage hospitals, and contribute to this Board the sum of £SO per annum for eaotj. hospital, tho Board will undertake th? management of same, provided the total cost, thereof to the Board does not exceed £l6O. per annum for each hospital."—Mr. Burnett seconded tho motion, which on being pat was declared, carried, Mr. Guflio dissenting, giving as his reason for po doing thcrowas a new Act before Parliament.—A. full report of tho proceedings, will appear, in next issue.
