The police have discovered a clue in the New Plymouth murder case of great importance, and are now confident of being able to prove that the Maori now in custody committed the murder. It appears the boots which prisoner wore when arrested ha,ve been identified as belonging to the murdered man. Deceased purchased them, and afterwards had the heel partly taken off, and the man who made the alteration in the boots can identify them. Accused.states he purchased the boots at a certain store in Opunake, and the police are prepared to prove he did not. The police are .accumulating other evidence of damaging character, and there is little doubt but they have got the right man in custody.
