SURVEY FEES, ETC.

HaTing in recent issues driven a summary of the land laws of the Colony, it may be desirable, for the information of tliose who Wish to obtain land, to add the rules, regulations, and orders applicable to unsurveyed rural lands open for purchase or selection. The following are the charges for survey of such lands:— Not exceeding 30 acres, £G ; exceeding' 30 and up to SO acres, 3s Ud per acre, but not less" than £6 ; exceeding 50 ai-d up to 100 acres, 3s per acre, but not less than ■!-8 15s ; exceeding 100 ami up to 200 acres, 2s Od per acre, but not less than #:ls ; exceeding 200 and up to 300 acres, 2s per acre, but not less than .125; exceeding 300 and up lo 500 acres, Is yd per acre, but not less than £3O; exceeding 5110 and up to 1000 acres, Is 4d per acre, but not less than a 4110s; exceeds g 1000 and 11(1 to 2000 acres, Is pc-r acre, but not less than £oolos. For the survey of any area of rural land, being opeu land, the scale of charges shall be two-thirds of the foregoing rates. In case any question shall arise as to what lands are included in the expression "open land," the same shall be settled by the surveyor-general, whose decision shall be conclusive. All such charges shall, at the time of making application to purchase or select such land, be paid liy the applicant to a receiver of laud revenue for the district in which the land is situated, and shall be dealt with and disposed of in accordance with the regulations from lime to time in force under " The Land Act, 1835," or its amendments relating to deposits for surveys. Where the commissioner declines, u»der section IS of " The Land Act Amendment Act, 1857," to allow an applicant to have the land applied for surveyed at his own expense, then the scale of charges imposed by these regulations shall apply to any such case. Where application is made to select unsurveyed rural lands upon deferred payment or on perpetuul lease, the survey charges shall be made on tin scale lieri'by imposed, or the commissioner may allow the applicant to have the land surveyed at his own expense, as provided by section IS of "The Land Act Amendment Act, ISS7" ; and 111 cither of such cases the cost of survey shall be deducted from the cash value fft I he laud so selected.
