(From our own correspondent.) Dunedin, Thursday afternoon. A cablegram was received in town last night reporting the loss of the barque Schiehallion, from Auckland to London, ony'the. Isle of Wight. No particulars. '* In the Mafcaura" election, Shanks polled 282, and Kinross 249. One return to come ; 'but will increase. Shank's majority. ■ The Lands' Board went into the consideration of the question of how best to deal with some 20 runs, the leases of which expire in March ISSO. The whole of the
runs being described as being rough and mountainous country'it was decided to release all but two—three or four of the largest to be divided into two portions! The two decided to be re leased for pastoral purposes were tliose of W. H. Tesckemaker and Dr. Webster. One of 8,000 acres, and the other of 10,000 acres, situated at Kakauui, to bo sold by auction as rural lands. -They adjoin a hundred, the wholeof which has been taken up. Earuscleugh to be re-kased for ten years, 423 a and b ; Nokomai, same 430b, 433. Hawea, same.
