CHILD DROWNED AT SHANNON
FOUND IN A DRAIN. ' ”’ » A drowning fatality occurred at Shannon about 1 o’clock on Wed 7 nesday afternoon, the victim being Bernard Lawrence Prier, the two-year-old son of Mr and Mrs R. Prier, of okl Poxton Road. The tragedy took place quite near the parents’ home. . Mrs Prior was gardening at the front of the section, the child being with her. She had occasion to leave the garden for a short time and when she returned Mrs Prier found the child was missing. A visitor to the home. Mrs R. , Roberts, assisted in- the search and she was successful in finding the infant in a drain into which be had fallen. At the spot the drain is eight feet deep and it was carrying three feet of water. • Mr Prier-was called and the child was recovered. Artificial respiration was applied for some time without avail.
An inquest was held in Shannon yesterday, before Mr G. D. Hamilton, when a verdict of accidental: drowning was returned.
