FOXTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
MONTHLY MEETING. < There was a large attendance at the usual monthly meeting of the Foxton (Women’s Institute which was held in the Anglican schoolroom yesterday afternoon and was presided over by Mrs E. Brown (President). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames E, Titeombe, M. A. Ross, L. J. Chittenden, J. F. Riches, L. Fletcher and Burns. Miss 0. Harkness was elected a member of the Institute. Arrangements in connection with the annual birthday party which is to be held in the Town Hall on the 19th August were discussed at length. It was decided that the function should take the form of a concert and dance. Tavo plays will be presented by the Drama Circle and a professional orchestra Avill be engaged for the occasion. A most interesting talk on “Life in Samoa” was given by Mrs Penketh, of Palmerston North. Mrs Penketh, who resided in Samoa for five years, was accompanied by a Samoan girl Avho is attending college in New Zealand. Those present listened Avith interest to Mrs Penketh’s talk and the Samoan dresses and articles of handAvork Avere much admired. Mrs Penketh Avas accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her much appreciated address. Afternoon tea Avas served by the hostesses Avho were Mesdames McKenzie, McEwan, McLaughlan, S. Newtli, Chven, Noekles, W. Ogden and Misses Nye and Mounsey.
