PALMERSTON N. SUPREME COURT.

HEAVY QUARTERLY SITTING.

The quarterly sitting of the Supreme Court, which will open in Palmerston N. next week, promises to be a lengthy one, it being expected that it will extend to three or four weeks. There are six criminal cases set down fox trial, involving 3 0 persons, but. there is the likelihood that a further three cases will be added. There are six sexual cases. There are 10 civil cases, eight of which will be taken before the judge alone. In addition there are three family protection actions and one appeal, 11 or 12 divorce eases, and 15 petitions for release from bankruptcy. One civil action, which will probably be the first under the Act to be heard in New Zealand, is a claim for contribution to a complete indemnity in respect of any damage for which plaintiff may be liable, the claim being based under sub-section: 1 (c) and 2 of section 17 of the Law Reform Act, 1936. Plaintiff was the driver of a motor car which was involved in a collision with a motor cyclist who had a woman pillion rider, and the indemnity is sought against any claim for damages which the pillion rider might bring.
