■MR. R. A. ROBBIE FAREWELLED.

• A farewell social in honour of Mr R. A. Robbie was held by the pupils of the secondary department of tiie Foxton District High School at the school last evening. There was a large attendance of pupils and a very pleasant evening was spent in dancing interspersed with games and competitions. At the conclusion of .supper which was served by an energetic committee, opportunity was taken by Jack Shorthouse (Prefect) to express, on behalf of the pupils, regret at Mr Robbie’s departure from Foxton. After wishing Mr. Robbie every success Mr Shorthouse called on him to accept a handsome set of books as a memento of affection and esteem from his pupils. , , -■ Mr. Robbie briefly replied, thanking those present for the handsome gift and the good wishes expressed. He stated that he was very sorry..to be relinquishing his position as teacher at the local High School but he would watch with interest the careers of those pupils who had passed through his hands.

Mrs R. A. Robbie was made the recipient of a charming bouquet presented by Miss Nina Botaroff (Prefect) and musical honours were lustily accorded Mr and Mrs Robbie. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” at midnight brought to a close a very happy social function. HIGH SCHOOL OLD PUPILS’ , ASSOCIATION. Prior to the commencement of the social held last evening, a largo number of members of the T* oxton High School Old Pupils’ Association gathered at the school for the purpose of farewelling Mr R. A. Robbie.

■ Mr. M. Moffat, President of the Association, in a few well-chosen words, expressed the regret felt by the Association at Mr Robbie s departure from Foxton. Mr Robbie, bad been instrumental in organising the Association some five, years ago and he had since taken a keen interest in its welfare. Mr. Moffat, after wishing Mr Robbie every success in his new sphere, called on him to accept a small token of appreciation from the members of the Old Pupils’ Association.

The gift presented by the Association was somewhat unusual, it being the monogram of the Association beautifully worked and enclosed in a case. At a recent committee meeting plans for a new monogram were discussed ar.d finalised and Mr Robbie was made the recipient of tlie first monogram to' be completed. In replying, Mr Robbie expressed great- pleasure at the gift received which, he said, was one he would always treasure. He was very pleased to see that the Association was. growing steadily and he hoped that- it would, continue along the lines so well begun. The majority of members of the Association, said Mr Robbie, had been pupils at the school during his term of offi.ee and the careers of the members and the progress of the Association itself would always be subjects of interest to him. Mr. Robbie concluded by thanking Mr. Moffat for the honour conferred upon him and for the eulogistic references to his work and the good wishes expressed for his future.

SCHOOL PARENTS’ ASSOCLITION. • The committee members of the Foxton School Parents’ Association assembled , with the members of the Old Pupils’ Association at the school last evening'to farewell Mr. Robbie. Expressions of regret, occasioned by the departure from Foxton of Mr R. A. Robbie, and every good wish for the future were spoken by-Mrs E. Titcombe, on behalf of the ladies of the Association, and Mr W. M: Thomas, on behalf of the gentlemen. The "'presentation of two handsome volumes as a token of esteem from the members or the Association to Mr Robbie, was made by Adjutant A. W. Barnes (President), who also voiced the regret of the Association and expressed best wishes for his success in his new position. A Mr. Robbie suitably responded.
