(To the Editor)
'Sir, —In a recent edition of your paper there appeared in your correspondence column a letter over the nom de plume of “Rooked.” Apparently it has excited some interest and almost defeated its object by commencing a guessing competition as to Avho was the writer. In contrast to the Plunket Baby Competition, Sir, names are mentioned and I understand prominent amongst them is mine. Should there be a prize to be won in this latest competition it AA r ould have to he shared by/so many, Avere they guessing correctly, that I feel constrained to he at least charitable and advise the guessers to have another guess. I emphatically deny haAdng wasted time Avriting a letter over the nom de plume of “Rooked” and I sincerely trust that the Avriter —Avhoever he may he —will reply to F. ShaAv’s letter over his own signature. —Yours, etc.,-
G. F. SMITH.
Sir, —In reply to Fred Shaw, may I say that his plausible apologiadoes not ans Aver my protest against the illegality of sticking up people to
buy guesses I also hope the Government will provide money for organisations Avhich are rendering good sex*vice to the community hut excluding scrounging for political funds by sticking up people to bxiy guesses on chocolates, chewing gum, or other “delicacies.” —Yours, etc.
ROOKED,
