POLICE RAIDS IN THE CITY.

£IOO FINE FOR GAMBLING,

Wellington, Last Night. •The police raids on three city premises this morning led to the appearance of four men in the Police Gourt on gamine; charges. Daniel Augustus Lindsay, a motor driver, aged 48; Stanley Thomson, a clerk, aged 33; and Henry Barker, a tobacconist, aged 42, were charged with being the occupiers of premises in the city, they used them as common gaming houses. A remand on bail of £SO until Wednesday was granted in the case of Lindsay. The other two accused pleaded guilty.

Regarding Thomson, the Magistrate said a fine of £SO in January did not seem to have checked his activities much, and he imposed a fine of £IOO. “I can only warn him he cannot always expect fines,” he added. Bailker was fined £3O and a man found on the premises was fined £2.
