FOXTON RACING CLUB
The Foxton Racing Club has decided to commence racing at 11.39 a.m. on Saturday, June Bthj on the occasion of its Winter meeting. The Club has decided to present a handsome gold cup valued at 50 guineas for the September meeting.
At the annual meeting of the Levin Racing - Club, held'last week, it was reported that the Club had been successful in securing a rebate from the Government of £92. The bal-ance-sheet disclosed a deficit of £246. W. H. Field, Esq. and J. Linklater, Esq., M.’sP., were elected Patrons of the Club; Mr W. Ryder President; Messrs J. Ryder, W. G. Vickers, T. Bevan, W. Higgins, J. W. Procter and W. Bull vice-presidents; and Messrs W. Capper, W. Stannard, L. G. McDonald, S. B. Mexted, M. Winiata, W. Hannan, F. Davis, S. Sievers, S. L. Jackson, E. M. Ryder, T. Boddy and R. V. Brown Stewards. Mr W. G. Vickers was elected a life member of the Club.
The class of horse competing on the opening day of the Danneviuke Racing Club’s annual meeting, held on the Woodville course on Saturday, was moderate, but there was some good racing. The track was heavy and slow, but improved as the day w"BTe on. West Tor scored his third success on encl_when he won the Dannevirke Handicap. On this occasion his win was not easily accomplished, Gainsttd giving him a very close call. In addition to the win of West Tor, B. Burgess’s stable was successful also with Dollar Bill. Wahine Nui and West Tor were the only favourites to win, but there was a good attendance and the totalisator Ireturns were £3,895 10/-. There was no meeting so late last year but in March the club put through £2,784.
The Te Kuiti Racing Club’s meeting which was concluded at Te Rapa on Saturday, Avas the last to be held by the .club, whjch, under the terms of an arrangement for amalmation, will now be absorbed by the Waikato Racing Club. The Te Kuiti Club has been in existence for 24 years.
