CAUGHT BY BLASTING CHARGE

TWO MEN INJURED,

Two bushmen, Richard Dare, of Reimers Avenue, Mount Albert, aged 41, single, and a companion, Harry Queleh, were injured at Kaingoroa, near Kaitaia, on Tuesday, when a blasting charge exploded prematurely. The men were working together removing puriri from a block of land purchased by the Government for small farm settlement. -After sawing a post length from a fallen tree, they put in a charge to split the log. The fuse was lit, but later appeared to be extinguished. One of the men went forward to relight the fuse when the charge exploded.

Mr Dare suffered serious injuries to his eyes and Mr Queleh was injured about the face and chest. The injured men were taken to the County Hospital at Kaitaia, and after receiving treatment Mr Dare was sent to the Aukclaud Hos.pital to receive special attention to his eye. Mr Queleh is in a satisfactory condition.
