GOLF.
HERRINGTON LINKS CLOSED. The Herrington Golf Club closed its 1934 season on Saturday. Ideal weather prevailed, which induced a large attendance of members and visitors. Foursome's were the order of play, after which a very tasty afternoon ten was dispensed by the ladies. The Club Captain (Mr W. M. Thomas) welcomed the visitors and on behalf of the committee, expressed the club's gratitude to Mrs J. H. Robinson for the use of the links. The Club, he said, had had a very successful season and a good standard of play had been maintained by members. After briefly reviewing the club’s activities Mr Thomas called on Airs D. R. Ogilvv lo present the trophies to the various competition winners, the allocation being as follows: —
Championship Cup.—Air E. T. Wilson. (Runner-up: Air B. Gavin). Ogilvv Cup (kindly donated by Air D. R. Ogilvv) : Air E. T. Wilson. (Runner-up: Air L. C. Bryant). Qualifying Round Cup (donated by Air ,T. B. ATacpherson) : Air L. C. Prvant. The links wore then officially closed with, the hope that all members ivoiiJd be in attendance at the opening ceremony next year.
An unusual coincidence marked a friendly golf foursome at Ashburton on Saturday. R. B. Lambert holed in one, each of the others in the foursome having had fhe same distinction.
