FASHION FANCIES FOR THE SUMMER.

This year (says “Madelon” in the October “Australian Journal”) no one can reasonably complain of limited choice for their summer wardrobe, with the expansive number of riotous and colourful desig'DSj obligingly ranging from tiny pin spots and diminutive forget-me-nots to large whirling wind-swept balls and equally large leaves and flowers, with faces of pastel and positive colours; from ralkish plaids and sleek serpentine ribbon coils to light poised delicately liued birds in equally obliging numbers of cotton, linen, voile, chiffon, crepe-de-cliene, georgette, taffeta and lovely clinging crepe materials, which have all the newest and most popular colours, including all shades of blue, rose and mahogany, sky blue and bright red, navy and white, and other lovely colour combinations.

First of all in selection comes light suits, the ever sterling assets of early spring wear, in dusty pink, navy and white light woollen alpaca materials with which well-fitting coats and skirts are made. For their blouses and jackets, plaid and tartan taffetas are frequently used. Early spring frocks of light woollen add taffeta for light relieving touches, such as bows, collars and accessories. These f rod its, with their capes, tiny boleros and other coats, with capclet and epaulet sleeves, straight skirts buttoning in front and leaving short splits near the hem, are very distinctive and useful. Redingote ensembles, combining light frocks and coats of the same alpaca and woollen mixtures, have long frilly jabots, simple wide coat collars and other smart styles which have many adherents. Tailored black net, plaid and tartan taffeta over-blouses which have flared or straight pcplums, high necks with large saucy bows, or low square ones, and are nearly all daintily and frivolously befrilled, are worn with smartly tailored skirts whose very sobriety seems to provoke the pert bouses to even more mirthful frivolity. Many more gay frivolously beautiful frodks in chiffons and crisp organdies presenting floral, leafy and fantasticdesigns are already launching the most bewilderingly beautiful number of styles whose dainty eloquent enchantment expresses much of the light-hearted, spontaneous joys of - THE VALUE OF A SMILE. Some years ago the managing director of a large company became so impressed with the value of a smile in the ordinary course of business that ho encouraged his employees, male and female, to smile whenever he passed them. This splendid idea might well be carried out more generally, for there is no doubt that a smile creates goodwill and inspires confidence —in fact many a man may be said to owe his success to his smile. Should you be one of those men who find it rather difficult, then buy Red Shield (dark) or Blue Shield (medium). Unknown to yourself you will develop that smile which reveals perfect contentment. You will find peope become more friendly and the world a happier place. The reason is that these are New Zealand tobaccos at their best and it is the toasting to a turn which makes them so thoroughly enjoyable. Red Shield (dark) and Blue Shield (medium) are obtainable everywhere in two-ounce tins (1/7) and one pound canister's. 44
