SAND DUNE AFFORESTATION
SUCCESS IN THE NORTH,
The two-year-old pine trees given by the Waitotara County Council and planted by the unemployed boys at the youths’ afforestation camp on the sand dunes at Kaitoke, Wanganui, are now well over. 4ft. high, although they have been planted only a year. Less than 5 per cent, did not strike, and these have been replaced with one-year-olds. ■ The pinus insignis trees for local planting set out in the Borough Council section in Main Street, have alt died and the nursery has now been cleared. It was not expected that the seedlings would live when planted as they were all self-sown' and unwrenched. The section has been given a good clean-up, however, and will be replanted at a suitable date.
