FOXTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

monthly meeting The October meeting of the Foxton Women’s Institute was held in the Anglican schoolroom, when there was a good attendance. The meeting was presided over by Mrs Titcomibe (President). Miss J. Stevenson, delegate to the North Wellington Federation, read a report of the meeting and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for same. • Business in connection with an entertainment to raise funds for the children’s lOhristmas tea party was discussed and it was decided to hold an open night at a future date. Final arrangements were left in the hands of the dramatic circle and ’entertainment committee. During the afternoon Mrs Brigadier Cottrell gave a particularly interesting address on “Women in Africa.” She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks as was also Mrs F. Procter who gave an instructive demonstration on articles made from paper pulp and fireless cooking in a hay-box. . The competition for the best plate of scones Was won by Mrs Blythe, with Mrs Tremain second. In the competition for the best paper mache article Miss McEwan was first and Mrs McEwen second. Mrs J. Symon won the guessing competition, the prize being a prettily worked toilet set donated by Mrs T. East. The hostesses for the afternoon were. Mesdames Sutherland, Barron, Thomas, Owen, Raikes, Bvne, ' Mudford, Reid and Miss Sutherland, and they provided a delicious afternoon' tea. The competition for next month wall be for the- best Christmas article costing the least and the best fruit squares. An enjoyable meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
