‘The writing' is on the wall. There is every indication that in every department the Metropolitan Show this year will eclipse all previous shows held in Palmerston North and a new stnndnrd will be set for New Zealand's Metropolitan Agricultural Shows. In almost every section there is a marked increase in entries. The interest- in horse competitions is stronger this year than ever. Many of the leading horses in the North Island will he competing. An innovation this year will be the competitions for judging of a jersey cow, a pig and a sheep by schoolboys. The domestic side of life in New Zealand is strongly represented in the magnificent, entries received in the art and fancy needlework, cooking, preserves, etc., where • the very ■pleasing total of 809 entries has been recorded. The schools section reveals the splendid record entry of 2400 entries. -The grand total of entries for the Show is 4815, which is a record and is ahead of the total for the Royal Show when held in Palmerston North in 1932. Many innovations in the way of special attractions are bound to find favour with the visiting public. These innovations include tin hare racing, a sheep shearing competition and an evening entertainment consisting in a demonstration of ■fencing (foil and sabre) by pupils of the London School of Arms, Wellington. A monster Motor Cat Olympia has also been arranged by the Manawatu Motor Traders’ Assoeiaton. The Show opens to-morrow and will continue on Thursday and Frida v.
