Sir, —Will you please permit me to correct the error made by the Certifying Officer in the note to my letter published in Tuesday’s Herald. The Certifying Officer stated that we Avere earning over £2 per Aveek of four days, cutting Avood. Avhereas our highest Avagcs for one we elk was £1 5/- for two and alialf cords. —Yours, etc. NOT TO BE PENALISED. [THE object of the Unemployment Fund is to supplement any intermittent- casual Avork within reason that the unemployed may obtain, and in this connection they should be encouraged, rather than to depend entirely upon the scheme. The Relieving Officer, hoAvever, must conform to the Board’s regulations, acting upon the facts submitted. —Ed. H.]
