REDUCTION IN PRICE OF CIGARETTES.
NEW SCALE NEXT MONTH
The principal cigarette manufacturers and agents in New Zealand are at present arranging a large-scale adjustment of cigarette prices which will result in lower rates to the public and a more reasonable profit to retailers. The new prices will come into operation on November 1, when the delayed reductions in duty on cigarettes under the revised Customs tariff become effective.
Under the new schedule, which is now licing issued, retail prices will range from 5d to 8d a packet of 10, as against fid to Od formerly. The greater number will sell at Od a packet, while two lines will retail at sd. Tobacco prices will he affected onlv to a minor extent.
