Christchurch, October 14

It is almost certain that Dr. Frank Birkinshriw, of Amberlev, will be the Labour candidate to oppose the Prime Minister, Rt. ITon. G. W. Forbes, for the Hnrunui seat. Dr. BirkinshaAV has been approached and has consented to stand, but he lias yet to be approved by the Labour Party. It is stated, lioavever, that there is little or no doubt that Dr. BiilkinshaAV will he selected and Avill stand.

LABOUR’S CHOICE FOR RANGITIKEI.

Mr. Ormond Wilson, son of Mr Hainish Wfilson, of Bulls, and grandson of the late Sir James Wilson, one of the loaders of the old Conservative Party in Ncav Zealand, has boon selected as the official Labour candidate for the Rangitikei seat at next General Election.

Mr Ormond Wilson, avlio is a farmer by occupation, lias not long returned' from Oxford University, where lie came under the influence of (lie modern movement in the famous old English centre of learning. The situation in Rangitikei Avill certainly be most intriguing. The present member, Mr A. StcAvart, Avas only returned at last election by a small majority from Mr J. T. Hogan, ex-M.P. for Wanganui. There is a strong Labour, element in the constituency, which includes Wanganui East at one end and Taihape at the other extreme. With an ardent young farmer proclaiming the doctrines of Labour, it is quite on the cards that he may secure considerable support in the rural areas.
