RACING
The totalisator returns for the Otaki meeting totalled £10,807 10/compared with £12,398, for last year, a decrease of £1,590 10/-. Mr P. S. Easton’s Manawatu ran second in the Puketoi Hurdles and Mr E. Heppner’s Gay Boy second in the Pukekaraka Hack Handicap. There was- an unfortunate mishap in the Manuao Trial Plate, Royal Alliance, ridden by A. Jen-; kins, changing its stride on the turn, and getting on to the heels of Dialogist. Royal Alliance fell and brought down three others, Roderick Dliu (C. Broughton), Evasion (R. Marsh) and All Speed (L. H. Jones). Broughton and Jones escaped with a shaking, but Marsh and Jenkins needed medical attention. Marsh was sent to hospital, his injuiies being diagnosed l as in the region of the kidneys. Jenkins had a severe cut under the right eye which required stitches, and he also damaged a rib, but after receiving attention he was able to leave for his home. Royal Alliance sustained injuries which necessitated his destroction.
