MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of the Manatwatn County Council was held in Sanson on Tuesday, presided oyer by Mr W>. E. Barber (Chairman). TREASURER’S REPORT.
The Treasurer reported as follows :—County Fund Ac. dr. £13,151 0/3; Main Highways Loan Ac., cr. £7O 3/0; Loan Ac., cr., £1,377 18/3; net Rr. balance, £11,097 4/3. The amounts available for expenditure in the several ridings was reported to be as follows: Sandon £2lB 0/3; ML Stewart, £l3B 9/6; Waitohi £154 7/3; Rongotea £232 2/3; Carnarvon £ll4 12/7; Kawa Kawa £284 1/- ; Awahou £l4O 8/5. ‘ TRAMWAY STATEMENT.
The tramway manager reported that the chief items of traffic for January were grain 3 tons; coal. 60J tons; manure*, 8 tons/ general merchandise 12 tons; eggs, 100 crates; sheep, 79 trucks; wool, 88 bales; pigs: 1 truck; metal: 48 trucks. The account showed a credit balance of £59 14/5 for the month’s working. The following alteration was made oh the rate roll: Hanapeka Matina to Mrs E. M. Mcßrearty, lot 29/35, township of Carnarvon. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer reported as follows: Main highways: During the hot days metal chips were spread on the three-coat sealing on the Mt. Stewart-Awaburi section _ of road, where signs of bleeding were evident. A few chains of shouldering was built on the Sanson-Bulls road and white traffic lines painted on various curves. Surface metal was spread on the liimatangi-Sanson road. The Ilimatangi-Rangiotu road received a good deal of attention in the way of extra grading and a few chains of shoulders built up and surface metal spread where necessary. A constant watch was maintained for prickly lettuce plants, which were being grubbed out before seeding. Shoulders were on the Foxton-Himatangi roaffi. Whirokino road was patched where necessary. The south abutment of the Government Drain bridge had to be replaced owing to the collapse of that portion of the structure. In the Awahou riding Nos. 1,2 and 6 lines and Sanatorium Rd. were graded and the metalled portion of Motuiti road patched and shaped up in general.
