.European residents of the llaleombe district witnessed a unique funeral service on Monday when a large gathering of Maoris assembled at Poupatute, near Halcombc, to Lake part in the last rites concerning the passing of Mokipera Tapiue, wife of the Rev. T. N. Tajnne, of Haleombe. The deceased was a member ol' the Ngatipikiahu tribe, of the Rangitikei district, holding high rank, and leaves, besides her husband, two sons and two daughters to mourn their loss. A supporter of the Ratana Church of New Zealand, the deceased was highly respected among a wide circle of relatives and friends and among the members of many tribes. She was a prominent member of the Ratana Temple choirs which were represented at the funeral by an impressive parade of members in two sections. In their choir gowns members of the Ratana Temple choir presented an uncommon sight as they led the procession, singing hymns in the Native tongue.
