PRESENTATION.

A pleasant ceremony was held at the Herald Office on Saturday afternoon, when the staff “gathered round the stone" in time-honoured fashion to make a. presentation to Mr Lacey King, who has completed his apprenticeship to the trade. Air E. Huntley, on behalf of the staff, presented Air King with a gold-mounted Schaeffer fountain pen and pencil in ease as a mark of the esteem in which Air'King is held by his fellow members of the staff. In making the presentation. Air Huntley referred to the very pleasant relations that had existed between the recipient and other members of tin* staff during the past six years. Harmony amongst the individual members of a team was a great point in promoting efficiency in the whole, and ii was worthy of note that during Mr King's term as an employee of the “Herald” not one occasion could ho recalled where harmony had been disturbed by any action on Mr King's part. As a young man acquiring n knowledge of the trade he had proved himself very apt and conscientious. Apprenticeship was like a course at school, in that it was not actually at school where on education was received, hut rather that the pupil was there equipped with tiic means of educating himself as his life unfolded. The speaker trusted that Air King would take every opportunity in the future to profit by the lessons of his apprenticeship and use it as a foundation upon which to build up a comprehensive and ever increasing knowledge of his trade. Best wishes were expressed on -behalf of the staff for Mr King's future welfare, and congratulations extended him on having completed his apprenticeship with much credit to himself and satisfaction to his employers. AL'. J. K. Hornblow, on behalf of the 'Company, handed Air King a cheque, and referred to the satisfactory way in which he had carried out his duties during his term, and of the regret that was felt at the retirement of one to whom a close attachment had grown up. Mr King suitably thanked Air Hornbloiw and the staff for tlieir gifts and kindly references.
