BYRD’S ARCTIC EXPEDITION
“EVERY MINUTE COUNTS.” Auckland, February 8. The latest report received by Mr. R. G. Brophy, second in command of the Byrd expedition, is that the supply ship, Eleanor Bolling, is approaching the New Zealand coast at to-p speed. “I have been in constant touch with the vessel,” Mr. Brophy said, “and I have issued instructions that every ounce -of speed that can be got out of the ship must be obtained, so that she shall reach Dunedin on February 14 instead of the following day. “The Eleanor Bolling must be away again 36 hours after her arrival. During that time the vessel will load 500 tons of gear, including an aeroplane, a motor-car, 5000 gallons of benzine, and 4000 gallons of other oils, Every -minute counts now.”
Mr. -Brophy will leave Auckland to-night or to-morroAV morning for Wellington and Dunedin.
