FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.

OFFICIAL OPENING OF COURTS. The official opening of the Foxton Tennis Club’s courts took place on Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather. There were no outside official visitors present but local members were present en force. The courts were in excellent condition for play. Mr. L. C. Bryant (president) formally declared the courts open for play and, in doing so, said he was particularly pleased to see so many of the younger members present. The club had to depend on its younger members to carry on the work and it was pleasing to note the interest they were taking in the welfare of the club. Mr. Bryant also paid a tribute to the work of the committee. They had saved the club a considerable sum by work they had carried out in the preparation of the 'courts and grounds. He hoped that the coming season would be a successful one for the club. He expressed regret that there were no visitors present but was of opinion that the bad weather experienced during the week had put .them off coming as they probably thought that the courts would be unfit for opening. Mr, Bryant then called on Mrs. Bryant to play the first ball, which was received, by Mr. W. Ross. The courts were then declared open and play was indulged in for the remainder of the afternoon. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies in the Bowling Club pavilion during the afternoon.
