borowlhenua district COUNCIL. The weekly meeting of the management eionynittee •of the Horowhenua Rugby District Council was held at Levin on Tuesday evening, there being present: Messrs H. Hannan (president), J. W. Procter (Hui Mai), A. Richards (Shannon), W. Phillipps (Referees), C 4. Mitchell (Shannon), Les. McDonald (Wanderers), J. Casey (secretary). A--pologies for absence were received from Messrs S. Hooper (Weraroa) and E. M. Ryder (Wanderers). JUNIOR KNOCKJQUT. Entries for the junior knock-out competition for the Licensed Victuallers’ Cup were received'sh-om the Wleraroa, Foxton, ParapaKiumu, Shannon, Miranui and Hur Mai clubs. It was decided that the competition be commenced on Saturday next. Arrangements for the draw were left to the secretary. CURTAIN-RAISER TO MANA WjHENUA MATCH. The Chairman reported that the Oriental club, Wellington,'had intimated to the Manawhcnua Union their wish to play a junior match against a team from the combined district, the date suggested being Saturday, August 25th, the day of the Manawhcnua v. Wellington senior rep. game at Levin. The chairman had told the secretary of the Combined Union that the Horowhenua 'Council could find a junior teffm to play on that day. It was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, that the Hui Mai juniors be asked to play tlie match against Oriental, to clommence at 12.30 p.m. as a curtain-raiser to the Manawhenua-Wellington game. THIRD GRADE REP. MATCH. | A letter was received from the Bush Union proposing Mr. A. Henry, a senior referee in their district, 1 to control the third grade match to i he played against Horowhenua at Pahiatua on Wednesday next. The nomination was agreed to. | Mr. Procter was appointed manager ■ of the Horowhenua team, which will j travel by bus. ! WRONG JERSEYS. A report was received that two ! Hui Mai players in the senior match . against Weraroa played at Wieraroa on Saturday, were wearing wrongly ! coloured jerseys. ' A fine of 2/6 was imposed in each J case. ! INTERMEDIATE BOYS’ GRADE, j Mr. Casey suggested that the • Council inaugurate a grade next j year for boys aged 15J years and j under, and charge them 1/- per head for travelling expenses. The idea was favourably received. The chairman stated that the secretary had mentioned it to him, pointing out that it would j>rovide games for boys leaving school, who were likely to be lost to Rugby otherwise. Mr. Richards remarked that such a system would encourage lads who were just below the third grade and who previously were liable to lose two or three years’ football. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr. Mitchell, the matter was referred to Messrs Casey and Procter, to bring down a report when convenient. PRIMARY SCHOOL REPS. Mr. Procter made complimentary reference to Mr. H. McDonald for the manner in which he had managed the Horowhenua primary school reps, on their visit to Wellington on Saturday. The speaker was impressed by the way in which the boys were turned out. Every lad of the team went on to the ground with his boots polished and his general personal appearance very neat. Mr. Richards endorsed Mr. Procter’s remarks, and expressed the hope that Mr. McDonald would carry on his good work. Mr. Casey said that the Council were fortunate in having such an enthusiast as Mr. McDonald in charge of school football. The committee decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr. J. Linklater, M.P., for the active interest he had taken in the Horowlienua boys during their visit. CONDOLENCE.

A vote of sympathy in connection with the death of Mrs. Boulton was passed to Mr. 11. Boulton (son) and Mr. S. Hooper (son-in-law).
