CHARGE FOR GAS.
DISCOUNT FOR SLOT CONSUMERS. -At last night’s Borough Council meeting the Mayor said he had several complaints in regard to the charge for gas made by householders with slot meters. The people with slot meters did not receive any discount as consumers did with ordinary meters. He had also received complaints that some meters registered 80ft. for 1/-, while others- registered 100 ft. Personally he would like to see the householders with slot meters placed on the same footing as those with ordinary meters. Ur. Cowley said that in Wanganui the meter reader refunded a discount when he collected the money from the meter. Cr. Rand said he understood that slot meters gave more gas for the 1/- than the ordinary meters did for an equivalent amount. This was in place of a discount.
The Clerk said there Avere several grades of meters. Different meters Avere used for lighting and heating or cooking. Slot meters did not give more gas per 1/- as suggested by Cr. Rand. Cr. Walker favoured the Mayor’s suggestion that all consumers should be placed on the same footing.
It was decided that slot meter consumers be charged for gas according to the meter index at the same rate per 100 c.ft. as ordinary meter consumers and that they be allowed the same discount.
